The next time you are discussing the history of slavery in America, ask your liberal, low-information friends the following questions:

“If I could save the Union without freeing any slave I would do it, and if I could save it by freeing all the slaves I would do it; and if I could save it by freeing some and leaving others alone, I would also do that.”
Answer: Abraham Lincoln.
- True or false: President Lincoln’s Emancipation Proclamation freed every slave in America.
Answer: False.
The truth is that Old Abe was more interested in saving the Union than abolishing slavery. Also, he actively pursued the possibility of getting every black person to leave America and settle elsewhere after emancipation.
But the Emancipation Proclamation applied only to slaves in rebel states. Not one slave in Maryland, Kentucky, or Missouri went free. The Confederates condemned the proclamation as cynical political maneuver. Actually, it was a master political stroke, and one reason European powers stayed out of the conflict. To help the South would have been to support slavery.
In any case, Lincoln’s plan to export former slaves never got anywhere. Frederick Douglass called it a “silly idea.” Blacks, Douglass and other black community leaders argued, had a historical presence the same as any other American. Why should they leave?
Which brings us to an event known as “Juneteenth.” We have heard Trump haters say that President Trump is a racist and an agent for white supremacy. So, our final question is this: Who wrote the following?
“On June 19, 1865, Major General Gordon Granger of the United States Army marched into Galveston, Texas, and issued General Order Number 3, declaring, ‘all slaves are free.’… For millions of African Americans, Juneteenth has served as an opportunity to celebrate the fundamental truth that all people are created equal and that liberty is a right endowed by our Creator.”
Answer: President Trump in his June 19, 2019, proclamation.
Unlike race panderers and poverty pimps like Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson, President Trump has actually accompanied that sentiment with action. You won’t see President Trump take a knee and drape himself with a kente scarf in a culturally inappropriate and ridiculous effort to show he is not a racist. Judging from the backlash and criticism over Pelosi and Schumer’s recent kente-scarf, knee bending lame stunt, the Democrats could be rethinking that approach.
But don’t expect Democrats to ever understand anything but dopey, vacuous symbolism. True freedom and equality are achieved economically, not by the false assertion that everything, everywhere in America is racist. Under President Trump’s leadership and policies, jobs and prosperity and low unemployment will be the black community’s escape hatches from the years of miserable Democrat policies of subsistence handouts, fatherless families, and the world’s worst education system.
With the temporary interruption of the coronavirus pandemic, President Trump’s America-first policies added more than 7 million jobs with openings outnumber job seekers by over a million. Unemployment rates for African Americans reached record lows, and will undoubtedly self-correct when the pandemic passes.
President Trump has done all that and much more, but don’t expect the mainstream media or Nancy Pelosi to give him one iota of credit.
To them, it’s all about that saintly career criminal and doped-up icon George Floyd trying to pass fake money and resisting arrest. Yes, George may even supplant womanizing Martin Luther King, Jr. as a new American icon for racial justice. Perhaps, in his memory we can put George’s face on a real $20 bill.
