Church Sues California for Violating First Amendment Rights

Pastor John MacArthur, an 81-year-old preacher in Los Angeles County, welcomed a big crowd to “the Grace Community Church peaceful protest” on Sunday morning. The unmasked preacher received thunderous applause from the hundreds of Christians in attendance at the service.

The Governor of California Gavin Newsom, a.k.a. Nancy Pelosi’s Nephew, hates John MacArthur and is trying to use the power of the state to shut the church down. There wasn’t supposed to be a service at Grace Community Church last Sunday, per Pelosi’s Nephew’s orders, but the church is fulfilling its number one duty in the face of tyranny: Telling the tyrants to go pound sand.

California was the first state in the nation to quarantine its healthy citizens to protect them from the Wuhan coronavirus. Back on March 20, Nancy Pelosi’s Nephew sent a letter to President Trump demanding immediate help, including a Navy hospital ship to be parked at the Port of Los Angeles. Pelosi’s Nephew predicted that nearly 26 million Californians would be infected with the virus by the end of April, and more than 1 million of them would be dead by then. The only way to stop this wave of death was a 10-day shutdown to flatten the curve. Thirty-nine other states then followed his lead.

Four-and-a-half months later, I have yet to meet a single person here in southern California who has caught the virus. I haven’t even heard of a friend-of-a-friend who has caught it. I have family scattered across the entire country, and none of my relatives know of anyone who has caught it.

Nancy Pelosi’s Nephew even tried to stuff infected patients into nursing homes, like the governors of New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Michigan, to try to rack up his kill count. But even that didn’t work in the sunny, vitamin D-rich weather of California. Pelosi’s Nephew has finally had to resort to flying infected illegal alien border crossers into Riverside County to try to plump up his pathetic numbers. The genetically modified Chinese virus has seriously underperformed in sunny California, as many predicted it would.

But amazingly, California is still largely locked down in many counties, thanks to Pelosi’s Nephew and Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti. I haven’t been able to get a haircut this year. You still can’t go to the dentist or a bar or a restaurant for indoor dining in most places in California. And you are definitely not supposed to be going to indoor church services, per the orders of Nancy Pelosi’s Nephew.

Pelosi’s Nephew was outraged that John MacArthur held an indoor church service on July 26^th. He sent a nasty letter to MacArthur for violating his orders. He threatened to shut the church down, fine the church and throw the 81-year-old pastor in prison. The cease-and-desist-from-church letter pretty much accuses John MacArthur and Grace Community Church of murder, by holding an indoor service that hundreds of people attended.

The elders at Grace Community Church and Pastor MacArthur have fired back with both barrels, filing a lawsuit against Pelosi’s Nephew, Garcetti and Los Angeles County. The lawsuit is awesome and you can read the whole thing here.

The church correctly notes that Nancy Pelosi’s Nephew and Eric Garcetti had absolutely no concerns about enforcing their public health mandates when they took off their masks and took a knee to worship and lick the boots of Black Lives Matter rioters this summer. There’s clearly a double standard at play when they order a church to cease-and-desist from holding church services.

The lawsuit is also striking in that it points out one of the most underreported facts about the Wuhan coronavirus. While the effects of the virus pandemic have been bad, the effects of the “suicide pandemic” have been worse. After four-and-a-half months of lockdowns and the financial, emotional and spiritual misery that resulted from it, more Californians have committed suicide than have died from coronavirus.

Walnut Creek, an affluent town just east of Berkeley, CA, saw an unprecedented spike in suicides after just the first four weeks of Nancy Pelosi’s Nephew locking down the economy. Dr. Mike deBoisblanc stated at the time, “We’ve seen a year’s worth of suicide attempts in the last four weeks.” A nurse at the same hospital noted, “I have never seen so much intentional injury,” remarking on the huge spike in suicides. Suicides in Fresno have increased 70% from a year ago. And the list goes on and on.

Grace Community Church is suing Nancy Pelosi’s Nephew because the government has no authority – absolutely none – to infringe on a church’s ability to share the Gospel and attend to the community’s spiritual needs. The church’s lawsuit is Biblical, patriotic and courageous, and more churches should follow Pastor MacArthur’s lead. It’s also just the sort of slap in the face that Nancy Pelosi’s Nephew deserves at this point.
